Colorado Charter School Business Manager's Network Meeting

The Colorado Department of Education's School Choice unit sponsors Charter School Business Manager's Network Meetings to allow charter school business leaders a chance to network and to get information about legal changes, how to run a charter school, and special budget or management issues encountered by charter schools.

Some of the topics include the state's charter capital contstruction funds, how to manage a budget, how much to keep in reserves and how to fundraise.

I've put together the agenda for our January 11, 2008 meeting. It includes:
  • A legislative update by the Colorado League of Charter Schools
  • Tips on fundraising by Matthew Monberg of Monberg and Associates, LLC
  • Ideas about banking and investing by Integrity Bank and Trust
  • Updates on The Classical Academy's mold issues at its East campus by your's truly

It's going to be a great session, and if you are reading this and happen to be associated with a Colorado charter school, make sure you send a representative. It's going to be good information.

The meeting will be in the Denver area. I'm not sure of the location yet. Mark Lockwood of CDE is setting up the meeting.

I'm Doug Hering, and I'm the CFO at The Classical Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. I've been in the charter world for over three years now, and have enjoyed the ride so far. I want to begin to use my experience from working on the leadership team of a 2.800 student K-12 charter school to help other charter (and perhaps private) schools as they start-up, grow, stabilize, and re-vitalize.

If you want to chat, just let me know. I'll begin posting content soon--lessons learned about operating charters, as well as current discussions of legal issues that concern charters within Colorado and in the nation.

I hope this helps us all.
